Running in a wetsuit is hard work, as for that matter is swimming in shoes. How do I know this? Because I recently took part in the Llyn i Llyn swimrun.
For the uninitiated, swimruns involve, well, swimming and running.
They usually take place somewhere picturesque and hilly and you can basically carry whatever equipment you like – with the exception of a rubber dinghy. The sport started when two Swedes, doubtless after a few rounds of snaps, dared each other to swim between and run across the Stockholm archipelago. The sport has now spread across Europe, so it seemed only right to throw my swim hat into the ring. To find out how I fared, turn to page 76. Speaking of extreme challenges, MR’s assistant editor, Isaac Williams, combined two of his great loves – running and premium lager – at the recent Beer Mile World Classic in London. This noble event has come out of the North American colleges to become a global phenomenon. Read all about it on page 56.
