The LVTP5A1 is part of a family of amphibious vehicles that first went into service in 1956. It was designed by the Borg Warner company and built by FMC.
The LVTP5A1 was used extensively during the Vietnam conflict by the US Marine Corp, and was discontinued in service in 1972 being replaced by the LVT-7 family.
The vehicle is still being used presently by the Philippine Marine Corps.
