IBG 1:35 Bedford QL Refueller • Kit No. 35062
The Bedford QL was a range of multi-purpose trucks that became workhorses of the British Army during World War II.
More than 52,000 were manufactured from 1941 to 1945 in a multitude of variants: from general service cargo trucks and troop carriers, through gun tractors and signals vehicles, to fire engines and petrol tankers.
The Polish firm IBG Models has kitted several Bedford QL variants in both 1:35 and 1:72 scale. The last member of their 1:35 kit family is the QL Refueller that features two painting schemes: RAF Blue-Grey overall and a combination of Blue-Grey and Yellow, used in the 1950s. Once I’d seen the latter, I knew I have to add the vehicle in such a finish to my collection.
Building the Refueller
My first step was to prepare and paint the cab parts. I airbrushed an olive drab basecoat over the inner surfaces (typical for army trucks), using a mixture of the base colour (Tamiya XF-62) and XF-55 ‘Deck Tan’ for the highlights.
