Some modellers find painting fun. Some find it to be the ultimate test of their skills.
Others like myself look upon it with unrelenting doom. Am I going to stuff this up? Is the paint going to be the right shade? Will it measure up to my past painting? Will my airbrush work this time? …and a whole raft of other fears come into play. Which begs the question, when did this simple pastime become an all-consuming hobby? I’ll expand on that one next month but for now, let’s talk about the painting process.
There are a lot of books, videos and YouTube tutorials out there and I have seen a few that have helped me with renovations mostly but that again, is another story!
The problem I find with all these “self-help” aids however is, they make it look so easy, don’t they? I mean really, they tell you to do this and do that and then just like magic, its done and in most cases to an extremely high standard.
I sometimes think to myself, how many attempts did this take!
It’s like assembling IKEA furniture. The real key is practice, and that’s what you don’t tell you in these self-help books and videos. It’s all about trying and failing.
