FEATURE ARTICLE Tamiya 1:35 “Red Army” Matilda Mk.III/IV Infantry Tank • Kit No.35355
A FISH OUT OF WATER STORY
The Matilda tank was manufactured by Britain and earned most of its fame in the North African campaign.
However, between 1941 and 1943, some 1,084 Matildas were shipped to the Soviet Union. Only 918 were received by the Red Army, however, as the others likely never made it to the end of the Arctic Convoys as a result of German Attacks. The Soviets received onethird of the entire 2987 vehicle production run of the Matilda.
IN THE BOX
Tamiya has a rich history of Matilda tooling going all the way back to 1973. This was the box I originally purchased and started but soon after that I got my hands on most recent release. This was the one from 2017 using a re-tooled sprue layout compared to the 2009 boxing. This Matilda package has all the parts from 2009 edition minus vinyl tracks and new link and length tracks to suit the Soviet version.

CONSTRUCTION
I’d say that it is no surprise to say that this is what you would typically expect from Tamiya. I was looking for something quick to put together as a platform for new techniques that I have been keen to try on similar subject.
