-Copper State Models 1:35 Scale Resin wheels for Canadian Armoured MG Carrier A35-008k
Based on the chassis of the successful American-built Autocar UF XX1 truck, French immigrant Raymond Brutinel and Canadian businessman Sir Clifford Sifton commissioned the factory in Ardmore, Pennsylvania to fabricate armoured Autocars for Canada’s war effort soon after the outbreak of hostilities. With the help of private donations from public spirited businessmen, 20 cars were built, designed to carry machine guns and given steel plate sides providing moderate protection against gunfire. This protection was less than adequate in a lot of cases, resulting in a high casualty rate in action.

Upon arriving in France in 1916 with the First Canadian Motor Machine Gun Brigade, these cars had no immediate role for their intended purpose, and were relegated to more menial transport tasks. It wasn’t until the German Imperial army launched their March 1918 offensive that these few vehicles were put to good use in stemming the tide where they could, and helping with the Allied push to victory later in that year.

Copper State Models released their 1:35 scale kit in 2021, and with the last existing example of these vehicles in a museum in Ottawa, Canada as reference, made a very accurate job of it. After seeing a wonderful build of it by Steve Zaloga on Facebook I was inspired to pick up one of these models. CSM have also released resin figures to go along with the model, and recently a set of 3D printed wheels that feature the tiny hole pattern on the tire treads as an up-grade to their kit.

CONSTRUCTION OF THE CHASSIS
Tools and Materials Used:
The simple framework of the chassis fitted very well, with all visible parts of the engine, clutch and transmission represented. A solidly piped exhaust system and ribbed muffler is quite prominent, along with delicate brake rods and finely detailed steering components. While handling the model I broke one of the thin brake rods, and replaced it with a section of styrene rod.
