…and finally
Unusual scenes captured by the lens of Chris Nevard…
In 1959, filming was underway on Return of the Titfield Thunderbolt, the sequel to the much-loved comedy about local people saving their railway. Sadly the original line, the Limpley Stoke to Camerton branch, had been torn up the year before, so the former S&DJR line was used around Catcott Burtle instead. Alas, the film was never completed, after a fire in the processing lab destroyed all the film negatives. Here we see a rare colour photograph, the locomotive being very similar to Model Rail’s Sentinel 4wVBT, and is captured hauling a motley collection of elderly rolling stock during one of the takes.
