Reason PX 7 v1.1 FM Synth

Publisher Propellerhead

Price $99

With The Props having special offers on Reason recently, we thought it time for a quick catch-up on some of its rack extensions. PX7 is based on the ubiquitous Yamaha FM synth, and the sound is back in vogue thanks to all manner of styles – from dubstep to downtempo – and you can hear why with this. You get several banks including leads, keys, several legacy sets, and the more obvious FM bell-type sounds. It’s great to hear these older-style sounds in Reason, a DAW often unfairly judged as an analogue specialist. The strings are the biggest surprise, with the analogue ones sounding super realistic. The latest v1.1 includes more automation and a PX7 200k collection with 168,000 patches (yes, you read that right) said to be ‘the most complete set of all sounds ever made for the DX series.’ You can’t ask for more!

About MusicTech

The new issue of MusicTech is on sale Thursday, March 17th and this month we’re bringing you a 'Big Beats Special!'; we gathered together as many tutorials (for all levels) to help you provide that all-important backbone to your music productions. Or if you are some kind of ambient maestro, you’ll be pleased with a certain level of synthesis achieved over our 6 Of The Best, DIY Eurorack, Sound Design and Yamaha Montage features. As ever, enjoy the issue and send us some of the resulting beats. We like to Show Off Your Studios and we’ll soon be Showing Off Your Sounds, too, so keep it all coming.
