While exploring the majestic Zhangjiajie Mountains of China’s Hunan province, I came across this artist practising Chinese calligraphy, using lourishes of ink to create beautiful, ornate patterns on long scrolls of paper. We didn’t speak each other’s language, but he explained to my guide how calligraphy is still an extremely important part of China’s cultural history, and that he’d spent many years honing his skill. I came away humbled, having met a master of this magniicent and traditional art. JEREMY FLINT // PHOTOGRAPHER
