As nearly 50,000 people descended on New York City for the LGBT Pride March on June 24, Trudy Bermudez, an emergency medical technician, proposed to her girlfriend, fellow EMT Tayreen Bonilla, near the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village. The landmark bar was the site of the 1969 riots that signaled a critical turn in the fight for gay and lesbian rights.
