Fort Lauderdale, Florida—People fleeing after a gunman opened fire inside an airport terminal here on January 6 move toward law enforcement officers. Esteban Santiago flew from Anchorage to Minneapolis to Florida, then allegedly took a 9 mm handgun out of his checked luggage and started shooting, killing five people and wounding eight. An aunt of Santiago said he returned a changed man after a 10-month tour in Iraq. “His mind was not right,” Maria Ruiz Rivera told CNN. “He talked about all the destruction and the killing of children. He had visions all the time.”
