JUNG YEON-JE

SOUTH KOREA

Seoul, South Korea— Supporters of former South Korean President Park Geun-hye clash with police on March 10 after a court removed her from office over a corruption scandal. Three people were killed in the protests. Park’s powers had been suspended since December, when she was impeached by parliament, and the unanimous decision by the Constitutional Court finalized her ouster. An election will be held in May to replace Park, who was South Korea’s first female president. The opposition Democratic Party has a lead in opinion polls, which could mean a softening of policy toward North Korea at a time of rising tensions.
