BROTHERS Paddy and Finbar Dunne represented Scotland at the Celtic Games in Swansea at the weekend along with fellow club mate Stephen MacKenzie from Inverness Harriers. The epic 15-hour journey proved to be well worthwhile.
Like the weather in Swansea, the athletes’ performances were scorching. Stephen Mackenzie won gold in the under-16 boy’s long jump with a jump of 1.84m. Paddy Dunne won silver in the men’s under-18 javelin with a throw of 57.33m, a new personal best, and Finbar Dunne won silver in the boy’s under-16 discus with a new personal best throw of 42.22m.
The athletics season is approaching a climax with all three athletes due to compete in the Scottish National championships in Grangemouth over the next two weekends, with Paddy and Finbar going on to compete at the English National Championships at the end of the month having achieved the high qualifying standard.
