MORE than 70 vehicles were stopped, resulting in 32 offences being detected, when Highlands and Islands traffic police carried out a week of action on the Isle of Lewis.
Officers, supported by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, carried out the patrols and checks from September 26 to 30 as part of Operation Route, aimed at promoting road safety.
Divisional Road Policing Inspector Gus Stewart said: ‘It is easy to ignore the risks when we are driving and pretend that bad things only happen to other people. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been driving, how safe you think your driving is, or whatever else you tell yourself to justify your manner of driving or condition of your vehicle, the reality is people are hurt every day in collisions.
