Mull win the battle of North Argyll

Isle of Mull 48

Argyll and Bute 0

BT West Division Four

IN WHAT was dubbed ‘the battle of North Argyll’, Mull played some of their best rugby of the season so far against local rivals Argyll and Bute RFC – but the casualty count was high.

Both weather and pitch conditions were nearly perfect as a good crowd waited in anticipation of the neighbours’ first meeting of the season. Argyll and Bute had interestingly overtaken Mull in the league after their win against Hyndland the previous week, and must have sailed across the Sound with high hopes. The home team fielded a strong squad, welcoming Hamish Cumming to the front row for his debut. Meanwhile, the back line saw the return of Tobermory’s Douglas Swinbanks, who was to have a decisive influence throughout the afternoon.
