Dynamic duo gear up to judge competitions

Joy and Robert share top tips on picking a winner

THE ROYAL National Mòd got under way on Friday with a record number of entrants, writes David McPhee.

And as in any competition, there are winners and losers. But who makes those decisions? We spoke to two adjudicators who have the difficult job of judging some of this year’s competitions - Robert Robertson, Fort William, and Joy Dunlop, Connel.

‘Adjudicating feels more nerve-wracking than being a competitor,’ former Gold Medal winner Robert Robertson said.

‘I remember when I was competing - you always had something to say about the decision. Now I know that everyone in the room is an adjudicator in their own head - it’s quite a nerve-wracking thing to do.’
