IT WAS a hat-trick of choral trophy wins for Islay on Mòd Monday, as Còisir Ghàidhlig Bun-Sgoil Port Ilein and a new joint Port Ellen and Bowmore choir took the plaudits.
Port Ellen pupils won the unison singing for rural primary schools and the puirt-a-beul for under-13 age group choirs. They then joined up with fellow Ileachs from Bowmore to win The Susan Paterson Memorial Trophy for under-13 two-part harmony. Maureen Macdonald is head teacher of both primary schools and said the new joint choir, Càirdean Ciùil Ìle, helped to bring together pupils from the two schools.
