Oban Livestock Centre was busy last week for its sale.
TIREE – On Saturday August 19 United Auctions sold 4,924 lambs at their opening sale at Tiree Auction Mart. A tremendous show of quality bred lambs sold to the usual turnout of mainland buyers. Lambs averaged £56.38 per head or 164.62 pence per kilo against £57.09 per head and 171.74 pence per kilo at the corresponding sale last year.
In keeping with current trends, fleshy lambs in the 42-48 kilo range were selling at values above last year’s levels while medium to longer keep lambs were back on the year. The lead price of the day per head came from 2/15 Balevullin when their Texel crosses sold to £90. Heylipol Farm led the kilo prices at 204 pence for Beltex Crosses.
