Following on from the council’s approval of an oil depot at Oban airport, close to homes within a travellers’ site, a number of those residents have spoken to The Oban Times.
It’s hardly surprising that residents at the Ledaig site are upset at the decision. Twenty-four people in total raised objections, including Ardchattan Community Council, councillors Anne Horn, Julie McKenzie and Isobel Strong, and Argyll and Bute MP Brendan O’Hara.
Mary MacDonald, who lives at the site with her husband and disabled daughter, explained that when she first heard about it she did not realise it would be situated so close to her home, potentially impacting on day to day living and the safety of young children walking to the school bus, not to mention the fact that they will be living close to large volumes of flammable fuel.
