OBAN RNLI lifeboat launched on the morning of Friday July 28, to help a diver suspected of suffering from the ‘bends’ in the Sound of Mull.
Oban’s lifeboat, the Mora Edith MacDonald was requested to launch at 10.55am on Friday by the Coastguard in Stornoway to evacuate a diver who was suspected of suffering from decompression sickness, also known as the ‘bends’, following a rapid ascent while diving on a wreck in the Sound of Mull. Once on scene the diver was transferred on board the lifeboat, by 11.30am.
The volunteer crew then made their best speed possible back to Oban, following which the casualty was transferred on to a waiting ambulance for further assistance.
