THE LORD-LIEUTENANT of the Western Isles, Donald Martin, is urging islanders to nominate voluntary groups for the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS) 2018.
The QAVS was created in 2002 to celebrate the anniversary of Her Majesty the Queen’s coronation and is the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK to recognise outstanding work done in their own communities.
Mr Martin said: ‘It is now several years since we had a QAVS presented to any group in the Western Isles and I know there are hundreds of people throughout our islands who give thousands of hours of their free time to voluntary groups.
