■ The BA bingo minibus was doing its rounds in the pouring rain the other night, with a collection of ‘house guests’ on board. They were en route for the BA Club when the driver stopped at Claggan road end after seeing a woman waiting at the bus stop there. ‘Do you want a lift to the bingo’? he enquired. To which he received the unexpected response: ‘No thank you, I’m going to church.’
■ Some Scottish sporting words from Skeesh while at work. He was in discussion in the dining car about the respective merits of some sports. ‘Cricket,’ said a passenger from south of the border. ‘What’s that?’, Skeesh queried – facetiously. Came the reply: ‘A game for gentlemen.’ Our local hero countered with ‘shinty’! The Englishman looked puzzled. ‘What’s that’? he echoed. ‘A game for men!’ cried Skeesh, with relish.
