A record 127 bands have signed up for this year’s Piping At Forres on June 25, including Oban Pipe Band.

Formed in 1920, Oban Pipe Band is approaching its centenary. The band wears the MacLean of Duart tartan and their pipe major is Euan Dewar and leading drummer is Bobbie Davie. After a lapse of a number of years the band returned to the competition circuit in 2011 competing in Grade 3A and after a successful season became World Champions in that grade. In 2012 the band was promoted to Grade 2 where they remain.

A spokesman said: ‘The band is looking forward very much to the European Championships in Forres. It is probably the best organised championships and the welcome from the town of Forres is second to none.’
