TWENTY-YEAR-OLD Tobermory rally driver Alasdair Currie dominated his class on the Wales Rally GB National rally. Alasdair was guided through the high speed forest tracks by his co-driver, Lochaber GP Steven Brown. The duo scored a dominant class win and a superb 16th overall.
Alasdair competed in the Castrol-backed Ford Fiesta R2 as a prize drive for coming second in this year’s DMACK Fiesta ST Championship. This car was new to him for the event and a step-up in technology compared to the more basic Fiesta ST he has previously used. Currie and Brown competed on eight world rally championship stages, and set eight fastest stage times in the red hot 1.6 litre class storming to a class win of over four-anda- half minutes. An impressive finish to Alasdair’s first season competing on gravel.
‘This is the best result of my career so far, and only a taste of what’s to come. I drove with a sensible head and took no risks to make sure I completed the event.
