Everyone should strength train. That’s right, even yogis. Recent research has shown that resistance training provides a whole heap of benefits that can easily be applied to yogis that wish to enhance their practice. It is becoming increasingly accepted that strength training should form an integral part of any health and fitness regime. Not only does it enhance body shape and tone by building lean muscle but it can also significantly improve movement and assist with everyday activities that require strength such as walking up stairs, carrying a suitcase or picking up a baby. It can also help to counter age-related muscle loss, which begins as early as 35 years of age, and it can improve bone density, which again is impacted as we age. These benefits, along with other potential cardiovascular and disease-prevention benefits, all go to emphasise the importance of incorporating strength training into your wellbeing programme.
