Swimmers at London’s Hampstead Heath Ponds have voiced their concerns over the City of London Corporation’s plans to implement a ‘charging model’ at the Ponds after it launched a safety and sustainability review last month.
The review was launched to ensure the swimming facilities at the Heath could meet the growing demand, following advice from the Health and Safety Executive that it needs more lifeguards.
The City Corporation have now suggested five options for implementing a “charging model”. Their preferred way forward would be to collect the approved charges from 2 May 2020 to meet the agreed level of subsidy. They propose that charges would be applicable at the point of entry for the bathing ponds and Heath Rangers would oversee and ensure payment.
