Grow Your Own
SAVING YOUR SEEDS
As the growing season draws to a close for many plants, it’s time to start thinking about the year ahead and what you will want to grow again. The majority of your crops will have set seed by now and saving your own seeds for sowing next year can help you become more self-sufficient, and can assist you in working towards creating a ‘closed loop of energy’.
WHAT IS A CLOSED LOOP OF ENERGY?
Essentially, a ‘closed loop of energy’ is a form of cyclical recycling that means you’ll no longer have to rely on supermarkets for vegetables, or even garden centres for seeds; instead, your garden will provide enough seeds to fertilise itself for the next year. This form of organic seeding will practically eliminate waste (as all your seeds will be saved for the following year) and will create a healthy and diverse garden.
