Remainers do not understand the nature of the referendum (“Take back control,” March). Jolyon Maugham says we need to keep “our options open pending more evidence.” The “Leave” vote sought to give the people of this country the right to govern themselves. Why is that so difficult to understand? I see Maugham has kept his options open to emigrate to New Zealand. Why? It is not a member of a bloc and its people govern themselves. It is the last place on Earth he should consider.

Jolyon Maugham writes persuasively and eloquently but in a oneeyed manner. Article 50 allows for voluntary withdrawal or unilateral secession of a member state from the European Union without agreement between the seceding member state and the European Council, two years after notifying its intention to do so, with no provision being made to address the ensuing legal vacuum. How do the Remainers deal with this unqualified and generous right of secession of a member state from the EU?
