There is a point, about once a month, where I sit on my bed, the floor around me filled with clothes which have been selected, then rejected, and I wonder how it is that I have nothing to wear. This is a problem comedians have made fun of for decades – the eternal dilemma for women of not having the exact outfit that we need at that moment, despite owning half of Zara

A few months ago, however, I read about a woman who seemed to have cracked the code. Rather than debating each morning over the exact right look for her that day, she created a uniform for herself. Come rain or shine, each day she’d wear the same black trousers and white shirt. She’d bought multiples of each so that she never had to root through the dirty laundry in the hope of finding a top that worked with the heels she’d picked out.
