Q I am 25 years old and my parents separated just after Christmas. It was a complete shock and I feel as though the rug has been pulled out from under me. I am really worried about my mum, as she is quite needy and Dad has always supported her, and I am scared it is now going to fall on my shoulders. I have a brother, but we’re not close and he lives abroad. I am single and live in a shared house with friends, and although I’m building my career as an academic, I do not have a permanent job. I know it is childish, but I need my parents to support me, not the other way around. Can you offer some helpful advice? Name supplied
