Calgary illustrator Byron Eggenschwiler is about to make a big splash in the world of Canadian kidlit

THIS MONTH’S cover illustrator, Byron Eggenschwiler, is well known in the media world, having provided artwork to The New Yorker, Wall Street Journal, GQ, and many others. But he’s a newbie to Canadian children’s books. With only one credit to his name – the cover and spot illustrations for Groundwood Books’ Coyote Tales (2017), written by Thomas King – the press’s late publisher Sheila Barry offered him the dream job of illustrating Operatic (April), a graphic novel by heavyweight kids author Kyo Maclear.
