editor’s Note
I DON’T REMEMBER WHEN I first noticed, but suddenly everywhere I looked, there they were: hot pink and saturated yellow book covers. Those colours are pretty hard to miss! For Q&Q’s inaugural design-focused issue, I asked an expert, Lisa Jager, senior art director at Penguin Random House Canada, to provide some insight into the trend that is taking over not just bookshelves, but interior designs and fashion runways (and Beyoncé’s 2018 Coachella palette), as well. In the story on page 14, Jager explains that cover designers are “influenced by the world around them” as much as they are “inspired by the work of the author.”
