Railnews  |  March 2013
Railnews for March reports several significant developments.
The Government is seeking a Paving Bill to finance some early work on HS2, a new rolling stock strategy has been published which looks ahead to the next 30 years, and the Rail Delivery Group has moved on by gaining formal company status as well as its first Director-General.
Misfortune has struck spectacularly near Doncaster, where a slipping colliery spoil heap has wrecked several hundred metres of four-track railway. We have pictures from the site, including a remarkable aerial shot from a Network Rail helicopter.
And we also take a look back to 50 years ago this month, when Dr Beeching published his controversial Reshaping report. In a special feature, we ask whether he was a railway saboteur – or saviour.
