James McCafferey’s ’79 Mk1 VW Polo graces our cover this month. The project has been through some serious ups and downs during its build but despite a bunch of setbacks James has emerged out the other side with one of the world’s most complete Mk1 Polos. As a result he’s been cleaning up on the show scene this year, and when you check out our feature on the little Euro-look machine we think you’ll see why…
Elsewhere in the issue you’ll find a wide Renault 5 Turbo 2, an eye-popping Mk2 Ford Escort (built for road and drag use), a Cosworth-powered Toyota Starlet KP60, and a 700+bhp Opel Kadett live and direct from Scandinavia. Of course we’ve also got the purists amongst you covered too with a ‘Dream Drive’ in a stunning Porsche 356 Speedster. And, of course, there’s yet more deliciously vintage content inside.
We’ve also squeezed in event coverage on the Goodwood Revival and Players Show at North Weald in Essex. The two events took place on the same weekend back in September and neatly contrasted how diverse the world of classic / retro cars is these days. Hopefully the rest of the machinery in this issue does that diversity justice…
