Henley Royal Regatta

As the white flag came down and Sir Wiliam Borlase, winners of the Fawley Challenge Cup, threw their arms aloft, it marked the end of Henley Royal Regatta for 2015. It was a fitting end to a spectacular regatta that had re-written the rules of sporting broadcast whilst maintaining its strong traditional heritage.

The highlight of the Regatta for many was the final of the Grand Challenge Cup between Germany and Great Britain; the latter (racing as Leander Club and Molesey) had already dispatched the new Australian eight in the semi-final in what was dubbed ‘the Ashes on the water’. The stage was set for the race of the regatta, and the crews did not disappoint. The Germans grabbed an early lead but the British, led by the charismatic Will Satch in the stroke-seat, steadily reeled them in before moving away to win by nearly three lengths.
