Zimbabwean rowing has much to celebrate in the wake of Mugabe’s resignation. Mugabe’s wife Grace claimed much of the land in the region of Mazowe in order to build a school and university in honour of her husband. As part of these development efforts Grace privatised the Mazowe Dam in 2017 — banning everyone from using it including the Zimbabwean rowing community who had trained there for a number of years. Having been left both stunned and quite literally high and dry, the rowing team now hope that Mugabe’s resignation means they will soon be able to return to their home waters.
