mud-encrusted green workhorse lumbering down a rutted track in a haze of diesel smoke, or the Barbour-coated sportsman’s gleaming Range Rover parked by the lodge, the marque is as rural as a hedgerow. But as the king of off-roaders celebrates its seventieth birthday, some unwelcome guests have gatecrashed the party. There are plenty of other 4x4 manufacturers eager to snatch its muddy crown.
