When did you become vegan and why?

I became vegan three years ago, having been vegetarian for almost 20 years. It was a choice based purely on ethics, as I loved the taste of a lot of non-vegan food (especially cheese)! For me, it was the treatment of cows and chickens on farms. I watched a talk by Gary Yourovsky and the facts he presented really horrified me.
