People who read newspapers during the 1800s found tall tales about surviving mammoths easy to believe. Why not? Science was young, and much of the world was less well known than it is today. But over time, science, technology, and world knowledge became more advanced. Airplanes took to the sky. Far off lands were joined together by telephones and television. Scientists studied fossils and other evidence to learn the lost secrets of prehistoric animals, including the mighty mammoths. But even as they unearthed more and more solid scientific evidence about the vanished Ice Age giants, mammoth myths continued. Some continue even to this day….
