Released during a decade celebrated for its enduring and influential movies, 1987’s Evil Dead 2 still stands apart as something entirely unique. Soaked in buckets of blood and starring a cackling deer head, possessed amputated hand, army of flesh-eating Deadites and the wise-cracking antics of chainsaw-limbed, shotgun-wielding hero Ash Williams, the horror-comedy has consistently remained one of the best-loved cult films around since it appeared 30 years ago.
The film’s substantial legacy both in and outside of cinema would make it a momentous undertaking for any board game publisher to attempt to adapt to the tabletop – let alone a complete newcomer to the industry. Seemingly undeterred, that’s exactly the challenge comic book studio Space Goat Productions decided to take on when it announced last July that its tabletop debut would be Evil Dead 2: The Official Board Game.
