Celebrate. It’s a fairly short word that often leads to something big…a smile, a hug, maybe even a party. Are you celebrating something in 2022? Personally, I will have just seen my eldest son get married by the time you are reading this and I couldn’t be happier for him.
There are a number of events being celebrated in this issue of TBT & Friends: Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations take place in the UK in June; it has been 120 years since the first teddy bear and 175 years since the birth of Margarete Steiff. The story of how a stuffed toy came to be known as Teddy’s Bear is well known by arctophiles but do you know where the key event happened or how the teddy bear came to be so popular in the United States? You can celebrate all of these things in this magazine.
We asked readers to send us their celebration bears too and you can see some of them on our gallery pages. For example, Cindy Ballard made a gorgeous married furry couple for her own wedding cake topper, Nicole Kurau-Knüfermann also celebrated a wedding but with mice, and Maria Blee’s bear commemorating Queen Elizabeth II is as perfectly dressed as her Majesty herself! (see more on the Blee Bears website). Thank you to everyone who sent photos, sadly we didn’t have space for them all.
I hope you find plenty to smile about or celebrate between now and the next issue.
