EDITORIAL

Everywhere you look right now, some band somewhere is celebrating an anniversary of some description. Whether it be an anniversary of a landmark album, or simply how long they’ve been playing together, there’s always an excuse to raise a glass and bang your head. And that’s not a bad thing at all – anniversaries are a positive, they bring people together, they get people to talk, to reminisce and to listen to musical achievements and enjoy again the fruits of a band’s creative labour. It also means that we’re getting old! Constantly I find myself taken a back when I realise that albums I have grown up with are suddenly 20 or (even worse) 30 or 40 years old. But that’s the beauty too – great music is timeless, no matter when you listen to it. This month’s cover stars are 25 years old this year and have just released their tenth album, so for Katatonia it’s a double whammy. But with age comes clarity and knowledge and as you’ll have heard for yourselves, the band’s new release ‘The Fall Of Hearts’ is such a brilliant piece of melancholic metal. Perhaps not the most obvious of coverstars, it’s safe to say that Katatonia deserve the honour through consistently delivering awesome albums and going the distance when others have fallen by the wayside. I know you’ll enjoy José’s story as much as I did reading it for the first time.

About Terrorizer Magazine

This issue is packed, as always, with a cross-section of brutality and extremity and was brought to you as certain staff members recover from two of the best festivals in the calendar – namely Roadburn and Ritual Festival. You can read about both in this ‘ere issue too.
