FEBRUARY

St. Barbe Museum and Art Gallery Open Exhibition 2018

Details: Following a complete refurbishment in 2017, the St. barbe Open Exhibition returns in 2018, promising to be bigger and better, with new prizes and an extra category to enter, as well as a Young Person’s Open. Now in its 18th year, the exhibition has no theme; anyone can enter up to two works of art, including sculpture. Prizes include £300 for the best contemporary work, and a new People’s Choice award of £300 for the artwork that gets the most votes from visitors to the exhibition. Entry will be online for the first time.

Exhibition dates: February 23 to April 8.

Submissions deadline: January 28.

Handing-in day: February 15 and 16.

Royal Birmingham Society of Artists’ (RBSA) Open All Media Exhibition

Royal Society of British Artists (RBA)

Details: The Royal Society of british Artists (RbA) seeks submissions of work displaying the highest standards of skill, expression and concept of draughtsmanship for its annual open exhibition. Artists over the age of 18 may enter up to six works in any medium, of which three can be original framed prints. Up to four works will be accepted. maximum size 941⁄2in (240cm) in any dimension.

Entry: £15 per work; under-35s, £10 per work, tbc. Online submission for preselection at www.registrationmallgalleries.org.uk. Prizes include the Alfred Daniels Personal Favourite Award of six prizes of £100 each; The

Details: Established by the Royal Watercolour Society, this annual competition aims to encourage innovation and experimentation in all water-based media and provides a prestigious platform for both established and emerging artists. £14 submission fee per entry, with discounts on multiple entries. Water Colours (RI)

Details: Annual open exhibition of the Royal institute of Painters in Water Colours (Ri), of the best in modern and traditional contemporary watercolour painting. Acceptable media are watercolour or water-soluble media, including acrylic, ink or gouache painted on paper or a paper-based support, but not water-soluble oils. Artists over the age of 18 may submit up to six works, up to four may be selected. Entry: £15 per work; under-35s, £10 per work. Paintings must be framed in a light-coloured mount under glass and no larger than 941⁄2in (240cm) in the largest dimension. Online submission for preselection at www.registrationmallgalleries.org.uk. Numerous prizes and awards, including the Leathersellers’ Prize of £1,000 awarded to an artist aged between 18 and 30; the matt bruce memorial Award for the most outstanding use of light and colour, £500; the Schmincke Award and many other prizes.
