Sam Curran announced himself on the world stage with a brilliant three wicket burst that threatened to blow India away on day two of this first Test before a Virat Kohli century kept an absorbing contest in the balance. It may be a slight advantage for England after two days of this most absorbing of Test matches. However, Virat Kohli has served notice of the threat he poses to Joe Root’s team in this series after India’s captain shrugged off his poor record in this country to post a brilliant century.
