MACRON'S CHARM OFFENSIVE
Theresa May and Emmanuel Macron hailed the enduring relationship between their two countries as the French president made his first official visit to Britain last week. At a summit at Sandhurst military academy, the pair agreed a new deal on border controls, which commits Britain to paying an additional £44.5m for extra security measures in France’s Channel ports, and to speeding up the processing of asylum claims. May and Macron also agreed to enhanced
cooperation on defence, including a deal to contribute troops to a ten thousand strong joint expeditionary force. The heads of all five British and French intelligence agencies met together for the first time.
