Issue Cover

Total FlyFisher  |  October 2011

The October issue of Total FlyFisher is jam-packed with hints and tips to bring you success in all manner of fishing techniques and, of course, fly tying. Whatever type of fly fishing you’re into we have something that’s going to benefit you and put more fish in your net.
As you read this, hopefully your local stillwater will be experiencing an olive hatch so you need to check out Return Of The Olive with Hardy & Greys Academy member Andy Taylor. Andy easily copes with the trials and tribulations that come with catching trout that are feeding on these delicate little upwings, and he has the know-how to help you succeed too.
How many times have you cast out and before you’ve begun your retrieve a trout has taken your fly and you’ve missed the take? Lots? Competition angler Scott Graham shows you how to detect those takes as the fly drops through the water column; learn this technique and you’ll be amazed at the amount of bonus fish that can be caught during a day on the water.
River fishing just now can be hit or miss but river expert Simon Robinson has a fail-safe method for tackling tricky waters – dry flies, and the bigger the better! Just how does a small wild brownie deal with such a big mouthful? With gusto, that’s how!
Want to stalk some doubles? Paul Richardson breaks the day into two, using a couple of techniques to keep catching on crystal-clear waters all day long.
We also have some great features this month with monster pike and zander, in which you can learn all you need to know about catching these apex predators.
There’s also a whole load of river fishing, fly tying and tackle and great competitions.

Could Be Better Reviewed Saturday, 9 March 2013
The magazine is about the best out there, I like wild fishing and for me there's too heavy a focus on stocked waters and bright bushy flies but they do feature wild waters, natural flies, coarse fish on the fly and the occasional salt water fly fishing spread, I've even seen some tenkara articles.

I really wish the mag would move away from the stockie bashing and feature more wild fishing. Being the best of a bad bunch isn't much to shout about but there you go!
Great read! Reviewed Monday, 28 January 2013
Full of amazing shots, nteresting articles and always manages to teach me something every month with expert fly-tying.
