Jen and Mike
My name is Jen and I’d like to share my story with you. I met Mike on 3rd September 1999 at a Goth music festival in a ruined castle in Derbyshire. I’d recently come out of a 5-year relationship and wasn’t looking for anyone. I’d gone with a friend for a girl’s weekend and little did I know when we walked in through the stone archway that my life was about to change forever. I was dressed as a pink fairy as you do, and this bloke in a top hat came bounding over and said “hello, I’m Mike”. Anyway by the end of the weekend it became apparent that I and Mike had become an item. He lived in Maidenhead with his parents after his divorce, and I lived in Dover. So each weekend one of us would drive to the other’s place. It became increasingly difficult to leave each other and so on Christmas Eve 1999, he made the journey from Maidenhead to Dover for the last time. He moved to Dover to live with me permanently. We got married in a magical ceremony in February 2002 and I imagined us being together forever.
