Noël Coward may have famously sung that only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun, but when you’re travelling in Africa it can be difficult to avoid the extreme heat, midday or otherwise. It’s important to try and keep well hydrated by drinking lots of water and wearing a hat.
While you may experience minor irritations such as prickly heat, if you’re not careful, the potentially serious conditions — heat exhaustion and heatstroke — can kick in if you get too hot. They can also follow very strenuous physical exercise in more moderate climates.
