Moving mountains
Conservation work in Ethiopia’s Simiens has been taken to the next level with the African Wildlife Foundation’s (AWF) recent efforts. One of the greatest perils to the landscape, the collection of wood for heating and cooking, is being combated by the organisation’s recent scheme to introduce fuelefficient stoves. Funding has also been provided for the community-owned Limalimo Lodge, which opened last year, as well as a new primary school. Moreover, the critically endangered Ethiopian wolf has not been forgotten. In partnership with the Ethiopian Wolf Conservation Programme, the AWF has been engaging local people in monitoring populations and assessing the threat to habitats. The future is certainly looking up. ALICE ROBERTS
