Sagar is just a stone’s throw away from the hustle and bustle of Covent Garden, which is a wonderful place for Christmas shopping, meeting with friends or just getting into the festive spirit. Tucked away just one street behind the Royal Opera House, Sagar is wonderful for people watching — there is a busy theatre across the road — and if you can get a window spot, count yourself lucky. Sagar is very popular. We visited the Covent Garden branch of Sagar but they have also set up shop in Hammersmith, the West End and Harrow.
The great thing about Sagar is that from start to finish you feel as though the food you are having is authentic Indian food. All of the dishes at Sagar are vegetarian and they have a separate, comprehensive vegan menu (which you need to ask for). Sagar focuses on south Indian cuisine and the chefs in the Sagar Kitchens originate from Udupi, Western Ghats. Generally speaking, south Indian food focuses on rice and lentils more prominently and the Sagar menu really reflects this.
